You may limit Any Word Anywhere, Boolean, or Title searches by: Language, UIC Library Location, Year of Publication or Format.

Limiting a search is a valuable part of your search strategy. Instead of starting with very narrow search criteria--and possibly missing related items--you may want to start as broadly as possible, and then limit the initial broad search in carefully designed steps.

• NOTE: You can only apply limits to Any Word Anywhere, Title, and Boolean searches. Limits cannot be applied to Subject, Author, Call Number, or Course Reserve searches.

• You must click the Set Limits button to establish the limits after making your selections.

• Your Limits will stay in effect until you either clear them (reset) or until you log off or time out of UICCAT.

To limit your search by Language, Location, Year of Publication, or Format, click on the appropriate drop-down list and select the limiting criteria. To select multiple limits from any of the drop down menus on, hold down the control key (Ctrl) on Windows workstations or the apple key on Mac workstations, while selecting the limits by clicking with the mouse.

To limit your search by a year, type the year in the Year of Publication text box in the format YYYY. Then click the appropriate radio button for the date range that you want to find. For example, to find all texts published before 1850, type 1850 in the text box and then click the radio button next to the less than symbol (<).

Click the Set Limits button to apply the limits and continue searching.

Click the Clear Limits button to clear the limits page.

Language

You may select any language(s) by which to limit a search. This limit applies to the publication language of the items within the UIC Library collection.

Location

This limit applies to the UIC Library location. The locations are:

• East Campus = The Daley Library (Main), The Math Library, The Science Library, and The Architecture and Art Library.
• LHS-Chicago = Library of the Health Sciences at Chicago
• LHS-Peoria = Library of the Health Sciences at Peoria
• LHS-Rockford = Library of the Health Sciences at Rockford
• LHS-Urbana = Library of the Health Sciences at Urbana

Year of Publication

The year or range of years in which items were published.

Additional Format Specification

This is related to the physical format of the item. For example, computer file, globe, videorecording, etc.

Primary Format

This is the nature of item published. For example, a book, a journal, a manuscript.
