Biomedical and Health Informatics Colloquia

UIC has a diverse and robust health informatics teaching and research portfolios. There is an overall lack of awareness of other researchers working in health information as well as resources and sources of collaboration. The term biomedical and health informatics is meant in the broadest possible sense including such fields as: bioinformatics, computational biology, medical informatics, public health informatics, nursing informatics, pharmacy informatics, health information management, and many other biomedical and engineering related fields that are too numerous to name.

The purpose of the colloquia is to have monthly meetings where the first half of the meeting would be a presentation of the research that is ongoing at UIC. The second half of the meeting will be on grant funding. Funding opportunities arise that need a diverse set of skills bringing together the faculty and beginning the discussion. Informatics is so broad and diverse this will be an easy and effective way of keeping a pulse on activities directly outside of one research interest and help to spur additional collaborations.

The meeting occurs on the last Monday of the month during the Academic Calendar year at noon in Room 5175 COMRB (909 S. Wolcott) and food is provided. For more information, contact Andrew Boyd at boyda@uic.edu.

A "think aloud" on the challenges at the interface of clinical research and informatics

We invite clinical researchers who are contemplating research in which success depends heavily on information systems/informatics to come and discuss these challenges with faculty having subject matter expertise in a wide variety of information systems/informatics disciplines.  Our goal is to build faculty networks and collaborations, while exploring to better understand future research needs.

Be prepared to discuss existing challenges and pose new ideas for future research.
