Denise M. Hynes, PhD, RN, Director
Dr. Hynes oversees programs within the BI Core. In addition, she is responsible for working with CCTS leadership and other CCTS core and program directors to coordinate the activities of the Biomedical Informatics Core with the broader CCTS program. Dr. Hynes is Professor in the Department of Medicine, College of Medicine and Research Scientist in the Department of Health Policy Administration in the School of Public Health. She also maintains a joint appointment as a Research Career Scientist in the Department of Veterans Affairs, currently based at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital. Dr. Hynes has developed and utilized databases and informatics throughout her health science research career. In her ten years as director of the VA Information Resource Center (VIReC), she has overseen the development of a knowledge management system on databases in the VA, development of a research data warehouse that integrates VA and Medicare data, creation of a database and informatics helpdesk and consultation service, and the establishment of educational programs in clinical informatics. In addition to directing operations for the BI Core, she will direct the Core's Clinical Research Data Resources program.
Andrew Boyd, MD, Lead Clinical Liaison for Informatics
Andrew Boyd serves as the Lead Clinical Liaison for Informatics for the BI Core. He provides expertise in clinical data resources and will facilitate consultative services and collaborations between informatics experts and clinical and translational researchers. Dr. Boyd is a Research Assistant Professor in both the College of Medicine in the Department of Medical Education and the College of Applied Health Sciences in the Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences. He assisted with the development of the University of Michigan's NIH-supported Honest Broker System, a federated clinical research system that integrated diverse clinical and research resources for centralized accessibility.Staff
Neil Bahroos, MS, Associate Director for Informatics Research
As a technical project director, Mr. Bahroos oversees the development of Clinical Research Data Warehouse (CRDW) and coordinates requests for research use of clinical data from the UIMC. He has worked in a variety of roles, in both the public and private sector, to advance the study and practice of biomedical informatics for the past 14 years. Most recently he directed the University of Chicago's Initiative in Biomedical Informatics, which served the informatics needs for 17 different schools and departments and provided an interface to their Medical Center.
Buki Ogunseitan, MSc - Technical Project Director, Biomedical Informatics Infrastructure
Buki Ogunseitan serves as the Technical Project Director for Biomedical Informatics Infrastructure. She is responsible for developing technical solutions that address the research questions of clinical and translational investigators seeking CCTS services and contribute to the internal core research efforts of the BI core. She has extensive experience in directing information technology teams in developing, implementing and maintaining client specific applications and processes which address the needs of research community through solutions that will be used to help collect, organize and analyze data on clinical and non-clinical research. Her area of expertise include: system and process design, clinical and non-clinical trials business and process analysis, project management, strategic planning and client relations dynamics.
Melissa W. Garrett, MSW - BI Core Project Coordinator and Project Lead, UICollaboratory Research Profiles
Melissa Garrett serves as the BI Core project coordinator and the project lead for the UICollaboratory Research Profiles. She receives and coordinates all incoming requests for BI Core consultation services and assists in the planning, implementation and dissemination of BI Core projects. She also oversees the development and implementation of the UICollaboratory Research Profiles, a research social networking site for health science researchers at UIC and UIUC.
Ariadna Garcia, MS, Software Developer/Database Administrator
Ariadna Garcia is in charge of designing, developing and maintaining the database for the UICollaboratory Research Profiles. She is also responsible for designing and developing technical solutions for CCTS projects such as the community mapping project and the development of an integrated data repository using DSpace. Ariadna has wide experience in programming and database languages such as C#, Java, PHP, SQL, Oracle, MySQL as well as analytics tools like R and SAS.
Tommie Jackson - Data warehouse Database/System Administrator
Tommie Jackson serves as a Data Warehouse Database/System Administrator for the BI Core's Clinical Research Data Warehouse project. He provides expertise to develop and maintain aspects of the data warehouse centered on middle-ware, data transfer, OS and Database maintenance. Mr. Jackson has extensive experiences in integration and maintenance of OS, middle-ware applications, and database in an online environment.
Xiao Dong, PhD - Visiting Biomedical Informatics Specialist
Xiao Dong serves as the software specialist for the CRDW (Clinical Research Data Warehouse) team. He addresses data modeling challenges in projects directly related to the CRDW and provides solutions to various engineering and developmental needs. Xiao has previously worked in biomedical informatics academic research and within the pharmaceutical industry. He also has extensive experiences in Ruby on Rails agile development, machine learning and semantic web design.
Eugene M. Sadhu, MD, Visiting Biomedical Informatics Core Research Specialist
Dr. Sadhu serves as part of the Clinical Research Data Warehouse team. His background as a graduate of the UIC College of Medicine and fellowship in Biomedical Informatics at the University of Chicago Department of Surgery and Computation Institute provide the warehouse team with clinical insight into the problem domain. His prior research experience in high-performance computing and professional work software engineering further provide skills in bridging technical knowledge and clinical expertise.
Jenny Byelick, MPH, Research Assistant
Jenny Byelick serves as a research assistant with the BI Core. She assists in coordinating research requests for clinical data and other projects regarding the implementation of a clinical research data warehouse. She also helps to collect, manage and update faculty information from the health science colleges for the UICollaboratory Research Profiles tool.
Rose Perez, Research Coordinator
Rose Perez serves as Research Coordinator for the BI Core. She provides administrative support and serves as an assistant to the Director and Associate Director. She also helps coordinate research requests for clinical data and other BI services and projects.Consultants
Bernie Acs - Computer Systems/Data Warehouse Consultant
Bernie Acs serves as a computer systems expert and provides consultant support to the BI Core. Mr. Acs is based at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA). Mr. Acs' expertise supports the development of the Clinical Research Data Warehouse (CRDW), a project that aims to foster exploration preparatory to clinical and translational research and support clinical and translational informatics research. Mr. Acs works with the BI Core on all aspects of the CRDW, including hardware and software support, programming expertise, and database architecture.Clinical Data Warehouse Advisory Committee
The members of the Clinical Data Warehouse Advisory Committee provide oversight and feedback on the development and implementation of the clinical data warehouse. The committee meets on a bi-monthly basis and is facilitated by Dr. Denise Hynes.
