Seminars

There are a variety of Educational Seminars that are organized by CCTS Directors. CCTS will be conducting the following educational seminars:

Translational Research Seminar Series

This seminar series, organized by the CCTS Novel Translational and Collaborative Studies Core, is a monthly one-hour educational seminar, held on the 4th Tuesday of each month from 12:00-1:00 in COMRB 5175. Seminars in Translational Research are presented by and for the broad research community at UIC. The schedule for the CURRENT academic year can be obtained here.

To view archives of past seminars, you need to log-in using your UIC Netid. Please visit Past CCTS seminars. For details about past seminars, select a term below.

This seminar series highlights cutting edge discoveries and developments in clinical and translational research. Seminars in Translational Research are presented by and for the broad research community at UIC. The schedule can be obtained here.

Health Outcomes Seminar Series

This seminar series is presented by the UIC REACH (Research Education and Careers in Health) Program and the UIC Center for Pharmacoeconomic Research. It is usually held on the third Thursday of the month, unless otherwise noted. Seminar topics address issues of current interest in health policy and outcomes research. Past presentations have included comparative effectiveness research, effects of minimum wage on obesity, and improving quality of prenatal care for low-income women. The Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 schedules are available.

Works-In-Progress Seminar Series

During this seminar series, MS CTS Degree Program present their current research activities at an initial research session as part of their mentored research hours. In addition, students in related programs, such as the TL1 PECTS, the KL2 Scholars and BIRCWH, are invited to participate. The series provides a true interdisciplinary opportunity for trainees in these programs, who are at quite different stages in their professional development and from different disciplines, to both provide and receive critiques of their research ideas. We regard this workshop as an important component in the development of an interdisciplinary mentoring community. Click here for past schedule of Works in Progress Seminars.

CCTS Distinguished Lectures

At these lectures, investigators who have made seminal contributions to any field of clinical and translational science will speak to the UIC research community. These lectures are open to all. Click here for list of previous lectures.

UIC Comparative Effectiveness Research Symposium

The CCTS and the Center for Pharmacoeconomic Research sponsored a symposium on November 1, 2010, that brought together researchers to increase awareness and stimulate collaborations and funding in the area of Comparative Effectiveness and Patient-Centered Outcomes Research. The symposium was followed by the CCTS Fall 2010 Distinguished Lecture, "Evidence-Based Transformation: Keeping the Patient at the Center of Care", with Carolyn Clancy, MD, Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. You can view the symposium's slide presentations here (netid required). You can also view Dr. Clancy's slide presentation here.

Other Related Events

In addition to events sponsored by the CCTS, other UIC departments across campus, as well as outside agencies, offer a wide variety of journal clubs, seminars and workshops each month. Click on 'Research Events Calendar' for more information and updates.
