Dr. Theodore Mazzone
Director, CCTS
CHIEF, SECTION OF ENDOCRINOLOGY, DIABETES AND METABOLISM, UIC DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE
Dr. Mazzone received his undergraduate degree from UIUC, and MD from Northwestern University with distinction. He obtained his post-MD clinical and research training at UCLA and the University of Washington. He is the PI for the CTSA proposal to be submitted to NIH in October 2008, on behalf of UIC and other participating centers.
Dear Researchers
Welcome to the Web portal for the UIC Center for Clinical Translational
Science. Our center has three overarching mandates: Education, Research
Support, and Facilitation of Novel and Collaborative Approaches to
Clinical Translation Research.
Our educational program is structured to serve the needs of pre- and
post-doctoral trainees, junior faculty just beginning their research
careers, and established faculty wishing to expand their research into
clinical translational areas. In this way, we seek to increase the number
of well-trained clinical investigators to address the current and
projected critical shortage of these academic scientists.
The Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences includes six research
service cores: Design and Analysis, Clinical Interface; Biomedical
Informatics, Regulatory Support and Advocacy, Community Engagement and
Research, and Translational Technologies and Resources. These cores offer
many valuable services, and are structured to facilitate the work of new
and current clinical translational investigators. These service functions
are provided with a single point of access, either geographic (at our
offices located on the second and third floors of the Medical Center
Administration Building) or through this website.
By taking advantage of these education and service functions, along with
additional innovations, we address our third mandate, to facilitate new
collaborations and novel approaches for addressing clinical research
problems. As part of this mandate, we sponsor a pilot grant program,
a distinguished lecture series, and day-long trans-disciplinary seminars
to stimulate innovation and collaboration across the entire UIC campus.
Working toward these three goals in parallel, we hope to truly transform
the way clinical translational research is performed at the University
of Illinois for the benefit of patients, our investigators, and the entire
University. I would like to invite you to explore the many ways that the
UIC Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences could be of value to
you in achieving your research goals.
