A Higher Level of Care

The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago is pleased to acknowledge its physicians and surgeons who have been recognized as leaders in their specialties.The following is a list of doctors who were nominated by their peers for inclusion in Castle Connolly Medical Ltd.’s Top Doctors of America and the Best Doctors directory.

The doctors were honored by University of Illinois Board of Trustee members Lawrence Eppley and Kenneth Schmidt, President B. Joseph White, Chancellor Sylvia Manning, Dean Joseph Flaherty, members of the Medical Advancement Council, fellow faculty, staff, family and friends at a reception on December 7.

Castle Connolly’s Top Doctors of America
Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. is a healthcare research and information company founded in 1991 to help consumers find top doctors and top hospitals. Castle Connolly surveys and researches tens of thousands of doctors across the country. As a result, they identify America’s top doctors and provide information to consumers about their education, training and special expertise.

Over 25 of the more than 70 honored doctors attended the reception in Student Center West and were treated to cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Best Doctor’s Directory
The idea behind the Best Doctors database is to provide information about where the best care is available to consumers. Peer-to-peer surveys are used to identify those who are considered by fellow physicians to be the most skilled in their particular field. The directory provides detailed profiles of each physician, including his or her practice, research programs and diagnostic and treatment procedures. With person-to-person telephone interviews and polling and balloting software, Best Doctors collects up to 1.5 million evaluations annually. Only 5 percent of doctors actually are selected to become Best Doctors.

 Sarah Kilpatrick, MD, PhD, vice dean and head of obstetrics and gynecology, was honored as a Best Doctor. She addressed the crowd about what being a Best Doctor meant to her. Isabelle Wilkins, MD, director of maternal fetal medicine, was honored as both a Top Doctor and a Best Doctor. Her colleague, Gloria Elam, MD, associate professor of clinical obstetrics and gynecology, was honored as a Best Doctor.
