Applying for Financial Aid

Financial assistance for medical students is available. To apply for federal, state and institutional funds, you must complete the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA. You have the option of completing the paper version of the FAFSA or the electronic version, located on the Internet at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Renewal FAFSA is only available on the Internet. To complete the Renewal FAFSA you must use your U.S. Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN), which the federal processor mailed to you if you completed a 2001-2002 FAFSA and your address remained the same. If you did not receive your PIN, check your email and street address at the PIN Registration website at www.eac.ed.gov. After making any necessary updates to your addresses, you may submit an on-line request to have your PIN number "mailed" to you either via email or postal.

PRIORITY PROCESSING DATE - MARCH 1

The FAFSA must be received by the federal processor by March 1 for priority consideration. Applicants for admission to the College of Medicine as well as continuing students whose applications are received by the federal processor after March 1 will be considered for aid, but all funds may not be available and payment of funds may not occur during the first week of class. Also, there is a file complete deadline (usually in early April) that must be met for priority consideration.

A Special Note About Parental Information:

If you want to be considered for the Scholarship for Disadvantaged Student (SDS) and/or you are a M4 and want to be considered for the Primary Care Loan (PCL), you must complete the parental section of the FREE Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Parental information (and at least one parental signature) is required. The parental information will not jeopardize your independent status or eligibility for other aid programs. You must include yourself when computing the parental household size. If you do not have your parental information available before the March 1 priority deadline, do not delay the filing of your FAFSA. The last day to submit parental information is August 1. The form may be downloaded from this website.
