Early
Match Specialties
Some specialties do not use the NRMP (National Residency Match Program) but
use alternative systems with earlier deadlines, hence the name "Early Match
Specialties." Early Match Secialties are considered to be more competitive,
which means they generally screen applicants by USMLE Step I scores. The cut
off USMLE score varies by program and these levels are rarely disclosed. Students
considering early match specialties are advised to seek counsel early to develop
an effective match strategy.
