DR. JOANNES GREGARIUS DUSSER DE BARENNE
(1885-1940)

Dusser de Barenne of Dutch descent was one of the most important of all Dutch physiologists. Early on he did considerable work on posture and he was pioneer on demonstrating the major functional subdivisions of the sensory cortex. When he came to the U.S. to join the faculty in 1930 of the Yale School of Medicine, he attracted pupils and assistants to include Percival Bailey, Warren McCulloch, Arthur Ward, Leslie Nims and others. His contributions to the knowledge of the analysis of the interaction of various cortical and subcortical regions of the brain were monumental for other researchers to follow.
