| Born in Sweden, Henschen medical studies were made in his native land although he pursued neurologic studies in Germany in Munich and Leipzig. Although he became Professor of Medicine in Upsula, he showed considerable interest in aphasia as well as in the visual pathways and associated structures and he created volume on these studies. Many of the great neurology authorities of the time feel that Henschen deserved the Nobel Prize for his work on aphasia and the visual components of the brain but he failed to receive this. He waged a personal campaign against alcohol, prostitution and tuberculosis. He will be remembered as a great internist. | ![]() |
