DR. LUIGI LUCIANI
(1840-1919)

Luciani was born in Italy, underwent most of his education in his native country, and in 1868 displayed his first interest in physiology. He studied thereafter at the University of Leipzig under C.F. Ludwig who truly directed him into his lifetime pursuit in physiology. He made classical studies on cerebral localization of functions and promulgated the theory of the pathogenesis of epilepsy. He gained fame on his studies in the physiology starvation in man. He wrote effusively and well on human physiology.
