DR. WILLIAM MIXTER

Born in the United States, Mixter was a pioneer in neurosurgery contributing especially to spinal cord surgery. Together with another American orthopedist Barr at MGH they wrote a classic paper to the effect that "extradural chondromas" which with posterior root involvements were in effect prolapsed intervertebral disks. Much subsequent research and publications were an intervertebral disk disease.
