Born and educated in Germany, Roentgen, who studied to become a well known physicist turned to research in the study of what was later named x-rays. In 1895 he discovered these x-rays through dramatic experiments some accidental- even screndipitous. For this epoch discovery he was awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for 1901. It took some 50 years after Roentgen’s monumental discovery for neuroradiology to become a specific field- a new discipline.
