| Born and educated in Austria, Spurzheim assisted Franz Joseph Gall in the study of brain injuries with the phrenology concept formulated by Gall. Many cases of aphasia following cranial injuries in battle were studied. Spurzheim developed an interest I women accused of infanticide.
