| Dr. Ivane Beritashvili
(Beritoff), the founder of the national school of physiology and neuroscience
in Georgia. Among his many contributions, is discovery in the frog the
reciprocal inervation of skeletal muscles (1910-1914). He first realized
exciting and inhibiting reactions of the brainstem neuropile (reticular
formation) (1937). His most significant contribution was the discovery
of the mediation of animal psychoneural behavior by image-driven memory
(1966-1974). In 1958-60, together with Herbert Jasper, Henri Gastaut,
