The Department of Physiology and Biophysics has strong research programs in Cardiovascular Physiology and Metabolism, Cytoskeleton and Vascular Biology, Gastrointestinal and Epithelial Cell Biology, Neurosciences, Reproductive and Endocrine Sciences, Signal Transduction and Gene Regulation, Smooth and Skeletal Muscle Physiology.

Doctor of Philosophy Program Description:

Research-based Ph.D. Program
Year one and two course work culminating in an oral qualifying exam.
Minimum of 3 research rotations are required.
Written research proposal required at end of Year 2.
Departmental mid thesis seminar in Year 4.
Thesis defense after completion of research.

All Ph.D. students receive full tuition waiver and financial support, provided they are in good academic standing. Students can compete for NIH funded predoctoral fellowships and University scholarships.

Master of Science Program Description:

Anticipated length of Program: 2 years
Research-based M.S. Year 1 course work.
Research Rotations: optional.

M.S. Students may be able to negotiate a part-time appointment with an individual faculty member, but faculty support is independent of the department. M.S. Students will have a three-member committee. The committee will meet at least twice, once at the inception of the thesis project and one after defense.
