Department of Pathology, Division of Chemical Pathology/Clinical
Chemistry
The
Chemical Pathology Laboratory at the University of Illinois is
a full service, state-of-the-art laboratory offering a complete
menu of routine and specialized chemistry procedures. Chemical
Pathology includes Special Chemistry,
Toxicology, and Automated/General Chemistry.
The extensive test menu includes routine biochemistry analyses
such as electrolytes (Na, K, Cl, etc), tests of liver function,
tests of renal function, blood gases, basic metabolic screening
tests. However, more specialized tests such as those to monitor
therapeutic drugs and drugs of abuse are also performed in the
laboratory. We also offer an extensive menu of immunoassay procedures
including hormone assays, tumor markers, tests of thyroid function,
markers for anemia, tests of cardiac damage/cardiovascular risk,
therapeutic drug monitoring and tests for infectious diseases.
A point-of-care testing program is also managed by the laboratory.
The Division of Chemical Pathology produces approximately 1.6
million reportable test results each year.
The
Chemical Pathology Laboratory is located on the University of
Illinois Medical Center Campus at 840 South Wood Street, second
floor. The laboratory is staffed 7 days/week, 365 days/year. Pathology
fellow, resident, pathologist and/or Director on call 24 hours.
