Ophthalmic Pathologists

Robert Folberg, MD, FCAP, the Laboratory Director, is the Frances B. Geever Professor and Head of the Department of Pathology. Dr. Folberg came to UIC in January, 2000, from the University of Iowa where he was the Frederick C. Blodi Professor of Ophthalmology and Professor of Pathology. Dr. Folberg has certification in both Anatomic Pathology and Ophthalmology. He has research interests in conjunctival and uveal melanocytic lesions, the biology of invasion and metastasis in uveal melanoma, forensic ophthalmic pathology, and medical education methodology and technology. Deepak P. Edward, MD is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences and Pathology. Dr. Edward is an outstanding educator in the area of ophthalmic pathology. He has research interests in the mechanisms of apoptosis in glaucoma, the pathology of normal pressure glaucoma, and the modulation of wound healing after glaucoma filtration surgery. Elise Torczynski, MD is a visiting lecturer in Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at UIC, and plays an active role in the teaching mission of the Eye Pathology Laboratory. She has a special interest in forensic ophthalmic pathology.
