A curriculum addressing the Critical Assessment of the Literature occurs as part of Journal Club once a month.
The curriculum is two-fold: 1) to provide an introduction to the concepts of evidenced based medicine, learn about the study design and common statistical methods and apply critical appraisal skills to articles about therapy, prevention, diagnostic testing, harm, prognosis, causation, meat-analyses, practice guidelines and cost-benefit analyses. 2) To stay up to date on the latest literature as it appears in the major internal medicine journals (New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine, Archives of Internal Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association, British Medical Journal, Lancet and others.)
The discussion will be moderated by the Chief Residents and contributing faculty. The presentations will be succinct and incorporate the objective, results, strengths/weakeness, and application of the results to practice. The articles to be presented will be selected by the senior resident and Chief Residents.
