Vacation: four weeks paid per year. Interns have an extra week off between PGY-1 and PGY-2 year.
Sick Leave: 24 calendar days paid per year
Educational Leave: five days paid leave at the PGY-3 level
Health and Disability Insurance: available to residents and their dependents for a nominal fee. Dependent coverage is reimbursed up to the amount set by the GME operating committee.
Life Insurance: benefit of one year's stipend provided at no charge
Malpractice Insurance: covered at 100%
Educational Allowance:
PGY-1: $150
PGY-2: $200
PGY-3: $300
Education funds can be used at the UIC Medical Bookstore or other purchases such as UpToDate, MKSAP and MedStudy.
Medical Information Resources: free at-home access to all on-line library services, including UpToDate (at the VA), MD Consult, Harrison's On-Line, Medline, PubMed and Ovid Full-Text Journals.
Paid Moonlighting: for permanently licensed PGY-3 residents on consult rotations; twelve-hour shifts covering the subspecialty ward services Monday - Thursday nights; reimbursed at $65 per hour.
Additional Benefits: parking at a discounted rate, free dry cleaning for lab coats, and meal tickets when on call.
