Typical Resident Schedule
Residents submit their requests for specific rotations and schedules and most can be accomodated. Senior residents have first priority for rotations that they have not done prior to their senior year.
- Vacations are taken as either one 4-week block or two 2-week blocks.
- Non-medicine electives and research time can be substituted for Consult months.
- Subspecialty Consult rotations include inpatient consulting responsibilities and outpatient subspecialty care.
- Ambulatory Care Teams exist in both the University and WSVA outpatient practice sites, with residents assigned to one color-coded team throughout their training. Interns and Residents maintain two continuity practices, one at UIH and one at WSVA. Interns alternate 1/2 day per week at each site. Residents are at each site 1/2 day per week.
