Program Overview
Departmental Programs

There are several Centers of Excellence in Neuroscience research and teaching at the University of Illinois at Chicago. This includes several Departmental Programs leading to doctoral degrees. The Graduate Program in Neuroscience is not designed to supplant Departmental Programs but to complement and enhance those Programs, provide a curricular infrastructure in Neuroscience and promote collegiality among the Neuroscience faculty and students across the Campus. All listed Neuroscience faculty have primary or secondary appointments in these degree granting Departments. Graduate students in these Departments whose dissertation work focuses on Neuroscience can apply for the Concentration in Neuroscience to complement their degree. All students are also welcome to join in the Neuroscience Journal Club (NEUS 595) each semester.

Applicants are encouraged to review and consider these Departmental Programs along with the interdepartmental Graduate Program in Neuroscience. You may find that a degree in a classic discipline may be a better option for your career goals than a degree in Neuroscience per se. You may wish to discuss these options with the Director of Graduate Studies for these Programs as well as with the Director of Graduate Studies for the Neuroscience Program. You can follow the following links to the Departmental home pages to find out more about these programs and their degree requirements.
