Program GovernanceThe Graduate Program in Neuroscience (GPN) is a multidisciplinary and extradepartmental organization administered directly by the Graduate College of the University of Illinois at Chicago. The Dean of the Graduate College appoints the Chair of the GPN, who serves as the chief executive, the Director of Graduate Studies (DGS), who oversees all aspects of graduate work within the program, and the Program Coordinator, who serves as assistant to the DGS and Chair. The Executive Committee is composed of the Chair (who serves as Chair), the DGS, the Chairs of the three standing Graduate Study Advisory Committees, the Program Coordinator, representatives from the Center for Cognitive Medicine and the Laboratory of Integrative Neuroscience (to facilitate coordination and cooperation between these research and academic centers), and representatives from the Graduate College, Provost, and graduate students within the Program. The roles and functions of these committees are illustrated in the figure below.
