Bone HealthOsteoporosis is associated with an increased risk of fractures and morbidity. Early intervention can halt or reverse the process leading to a reduction in fractures. The Nutrition and Wellness Center offers bone mineral density (DXA) tests to screen for osteoporosis. Patients at risk for osteoporosis include those over the age of 65, those who use chronic corticosteroids, and individuals with a past history of fractures. In addition, patients with a history of organ transplantation and renal failure should be screened. Osteoporosis and low bone mass affect 44 million American men and women. Our Osteoporosis Team: |

NEWS A unique procedure being offered at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago may become the benchmark to guide physicians in determining a patient's risk for colon cancer. Using magnification endoscopy, doctors can see microscopic lesions of the colon not visible during a standard colonoscopy. The lesions may be an important biomarker for the development of colon cancer several years before polyps appear. |
