Requirements to |
UIC graduate students must: Complete six (6) approved teaching-related workshops. The UIC Teaching and Learning Center offers a series of workshops throughout the academic year allowing students to select workshops based on their schedules and interests. TLC approved workshops offered by other campus organizations or professional organizations may be used to satisfy up to two (2) workshops. Completion of a department-sponsored course on teaching in the discipline may be substituted for three (3) workshops. Create a teaching portfolio. Such a portfolio consists of documentation of the teaching abilities, interests, development, and accomplishments of the graduate student. A teaching portfolio can be a useful tool for graduate students seeking academic positions after graduation. The TLC will provide support in the development of teaching portfolios, including videotaping and assisting with outside observations. Although contents vary from person to person, the following items are recommended for inclusion reviewed portfolios: · A videotape of one class given by the participating graduate student · Performance reviews by the participating student’s supervising faculty member(s) · Two outside observations of the participating graduate students, at least one of these must be from a faculty member in the graduate student’s discipline. (These observations are in addition to observations made by the graduate student’s supervising faculty member) · Documented evidence of student learning (including course evaluations and student comments)
