Students with Disabilities:

To appropriate confidentiality of all information regarding their disability and to choose to whom, outside of UIC, information about their disability will be disclosed, except as disclosures are required/permitted by law;

To meet qualifications and maintain essential institutional standards for programs, courses, employment, services and activities;

To self-identify as an individual with a disability, when an accommodation is needed, and to seek information, counsel and assistance as necessary;

To demonstrate and/or document from an appropriate professional the existence of a disability and how it affects participation in programs, courses, employment, or activities;

To follow UIC's published procedures for obtaining information, services and reasonable accommodations.

University of Illinois at Chicago:


To identify and establish essential functions, abilities, skills and knowledge for programs, courses, employment, and activities, and to evaluate faculty, staff and students on this basis;

To request and receive, through the Disability Resource Center, current documentation that supports requests for reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments, assistive technology and services;

To deny a request for reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments or assistive technology and services if the documentation demonstrates that they are not warranted, or if the student fails to provide appropriate documentation;

To select among equally effective reasonable accommodations, adjustments or assistive technology and services;

To refuse an unreasonable accommodation, adjustment or assistive technology or service or one that imposes an undue hardship or fundamental alteration of a program or activity of UIC;


To provide information to faculty, staff, students and guests with disabilities in accessible formats upon request;

To ensure that programs, courses, employment, services and activities, when viewed in their entirety, are available and usable in the most integrated and appropriate settings;

To evaluate faculty, staff, students and applicants on their abilities and not on disabilities;

To provide or arrange reasonable accommodations, academic adjustments and assistive technology and services for faculty, staff, students and guests with disabilities in programs, courses, employment, services, facilities and activities;

To maintain appropriate confidentiality of records and communication, except where permitted/required by law.
