Transportation

Students needing accessible transportation have many options. Students seeking UIC transportation services must first register with the Disability Resource Center.  Call to schedule an intake appointment.

UIC Inter-Campus Bus

All inter-campus buses are accessible and provide free transportation for students, faculty, and staff to various points on campus.  See web site for specific shuttle drop off and pick up locations.

 

Priority Parking

Priority parking in lots close to buildings is available. Students should bring their class schedule to the DRC.; a Disability Specialist will specify the appropriate parking lots in the Letter of Documentation (LOA). Students should present their LOA to Parking Services to obtain a parking pass.

UIC Paratransit/Red Car

UIC Paratransit operates seven days a week within the boundaries of Halsted, the Eisenhower, Western and Roosevelt (and the Chemical Engineering Building). 

Scheduling Weekly Rides
Passengers who wish to schedule regular appointments for the week must provide a written request or e-mail to Transportation Services by the Thursday prior to the start of the week. Schedules may be e-mailed to rides@uic.edu or faxed to (312) 996-0165.  Include:

Your name
Pick-up day and time
Pick-up location and destination
Contact information (i.e. telephone number, e-mail, fax)
Whether wheelchair accessibility is needed
Any other accommodation requirements

 

Scheduling Additional Rides
Requests can be made on an as-needed basis with optimal lead call time of one (1) hour.

For non-regular paratransit rides between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 11:00 P.M, call Transportation Services at (312) 996-2842.  

For paratransit service between the hours of 11:00 P.M. and 7:00 A.M.,  call the Red Car Service at (312) 996-6800.

Chicago Transit Authority (CTA)

Chicago Paratransit

ADA Paratransit Service is shared-ride, curb-to-curb transportation provided in the Regional Transportation Authority's (RTA) region by Pace (the suburban bus division). 

To apply for ADA Paratransit service, please call the RTA's ADA Paratransit Certification program at 312/663-HELP (4357 voice) or 312/913-3122 (if you use a TTY) to request an application.  

Metra

Metra has modified rail cars and made accessible most of its busiest train stations along the lines to accommodate individuals with hearing, vision, and mobility disabilities.  Every accessible diesel Metra train can be identified with the "access" symbol.
