College and Unit Activities
In January 2009 the colleges were charged with initiating their Diversity Strategic Thinking activities. Over many weeks DSTP Committee Chairpersons William Walden and Lon Kaufman met with Deans, and later Vice Chancellors, to provide a framework for the DSTP process.
Colleges and administrative units are assembling diversity committees to coordinate their individual Diversity Strategic Thinking activities and provide input to the campus-level process. The college/unit diversity committees will be engaged in the following activities during the Diversity Strategic Thinking stage of the process:
- Complete a Diversity Strategic Thinking exercise. Colleges and administrative units were presented with a notebook outlining the DSTP process and containing a set of questions to guide the Diversity Strategic Thinking exercise, a sampling of data, and additional information about how they will communicate their progress to the campus. Copies of the Diversity Strategic Thinking framework for both colleges and administrative units are provided here for your review. (March – early June, 2009)
- Meet with the campus DSTP Committee to exchange information learned from each other’s work, and discuss major questions and issues that arise during the process. (late April – August, 2009)
- Draft a formal Diversity Strategic Thinking document outlining their diversity philosophies, activities, and future priorities. (June – August, 2009)
Periodic updates from college and unit diversity committees will made available on this Web site. Detailed information on college and unit Diversity Strategic Thinking activities can be obtained by contacting diversity committee chairpersons.
