Dr. Tapia will be the inaugural speaker of President Hogan's Presidential Lecture on Diversity. This lecture will be open to the university community at large, colleagues from other institutions, and to the general public.
Dr. Richard Tapia is University Professor; Maxfield-Oshman Professor in Engineering at Rice University, (Houston, Texas); Director of the Center for Excellence and Equity in Education; and Director of the Empowering Leadership Alliance. This lecture will provide a unique opportunity to learn more about the accomplishments of Dr. Tapia with regard to his national leadership in education. For example, Dr. Tapia's efforts have led to Rice receiving national recognition for its educational outreach programs and its Computational and Applied Mathematics Department becoming a national leader in producing women and underrepresented minority Ph.D. recipients in the mathematical sciences.
