New Faculty Checklist

Please follow these steps to locate The Office of the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs home page. Here you will find important and helpful information for faculty.

The New Faculty Checklist will help you keep track of important tasks. If you need further assistance, contact your department or your college dean’s office.

A. Human Resource Information

1. As soon as possible, confirm with your department HR liaison that a NESSIE* New Hire Log-On ID and password have been established for you.

2. Visit NESSIE online at http://www.uic.edu/depts/hr/siteindex.html

3. Attend Benefits Orientation during the first week of employment (see NESSIE web site for more information).

4. Check at Working@UIC website

B. University Identification Card - i-card

To obtain an i-card, present photo identification (i.e., driver's license) and verification of UIC status. The verification of UIC status may be a copy of the annual contract or notification of appointment, etc.

C. Parking Assignments

Parking is available to faculty, staff, and students at all times by card access. The parking program is self-supporting. All persons pay a fee when using any university parking facility. For those who drive to campus only occasionally, cash lots are available.

D. Setting Up Your Office

1. Verify assignment and keys.

2. Obtain office telephone and fax numbers and establish voice mail.

3. Obtain a staff directory through your department.

4. Find out your department street address and campus mailing address with mail code.

5. Install computer.

E. Using Computing Services at UIC

1. To be included in the on-line campus phonebook:

Contact your Staff Directory contact person (pbcontact) listed at http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/accts/netids.html#faculty

2. Set up NetID and computer accounts:

Faculty and staff members who are applying for a computer account for the first time must select a NETID, which is used to idenfiy their computer account(s). (See http://www.uic.edu/depts/accc/accts/netids.html)

After you are entered in the on-line campus directory (and have registered your NetID), you may open your computer account(s) using the account creation facility, under Accounts on the ACCC World Wide Web home page (http://www.accc.uic.edu .) If you have any questions or problems, call the Client Services Office, 312-413-8080.

3. Set up e-mail account:

In order to send and receive e-mail you must have an e-mail account with a personal e-mail address and you must have access to software to compose, send and receive e-mail. There is a wide choice of e-mail software available; ACCC provides and supports the following: WebMail, Eudora and Pine. Your e-mail address is provided by our ACCC e-mail or UNIX server account. F. Teaching Related Activities

1. Order textbooks.

2. Arrange for equipment for the classroom and make sure it is working and your ID is coded to access multimedia consoles.

3. Consider using Blackboard CourseInfo at UIC

G. Research Related Activities

1. Order lab equipment ordered.

2. Install equipment.

H. Policies and Procedures

Familiarize yourself with the following:

1. General rules concerning university organization and procedures

2. University Statutes

3. Review your departmental policies and procedures.

4. Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Policies and Procedures, (i.e., promotion and tenure, tenure rollback, sabbaticals, etc.)
