A major component of UIC's formal commitment to UIC College Prep is to help ensure that all students, regardless of their entering academic preparation, graduate from UIC College Prep prepared for college-level work, i.e., they will not have to enroll in remedial courses in college. This commitment implied a need for "intensification" initiatives--additional academic support that help struggling students succeed in a true college preparatory curriculum. This includes double-period classes in mathematics and literacy, provision of after-school and summer support programs, and development of other academic support structures.
School enrollment is managed using a lottery system that is held once per academic year.
