Meet the Provost: R. Michael Tanner
UIC Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
The
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs is the chief
operating officer of the campus, responsible for prioritizing
resource needs, securing resources for campus programs, and allocating
resources to units.
The Provost and Vice Chancellor
for Academic Affairs is also the chief academic officer of the
campus, responsible for all colleges, the library, and the academic
computer center. As such he develops and implements academic policy,
fosters new academic programs, monitors programmatic effectiveness,
identifies and establishes academic priorities in collaboration
with faculty, and collaborates with university leadership and
statewide higher education administration to advance campus concerns.
The Provost and Vice Chancellor
for Academic Affairs is responsible for creating an environment
and incentives that lead to faculty excellence. He advances academic
quality through promotion and tenure decisions and through programs
to enhance excellence in undergraduate and graduate education.
