| The
Office of School Relations and the CHANCE Learning Center (CLC)
in collaboration with both on and off campus partners provides
access for its students to the following: Academic Skills Builders
courses, tutoring services (face-to-face and web-based),
peer-to-peer mentors, specialized seminars and workshops. We also offer access
to professionals who provide programs tailored to improve and
enhance students’ academic and professional profiles, technology
training and assistance, and cultural enrichment opportunities.

Our
students who come to us from “all walks of life” represent
the “best and the brightest” within their perspective
communities. The 2005-06 ethnic /racial composition of our population
served included; 78% African American, 17% Hispanic/Latino, 1%
White and 4.5% Other. Recognizing that many of our clients come
from households that are first-generation college students, the
CHANCE Learning Center offers access to; tuition scholarship
opportunities, campus housing opportunities, book vouchers, study
abroad scholarship opportunities, and a “state-of-the-art”
laptop.
Since the inception of the program PC has awarded $110,500
in scholarships to students in need of financial assistance. Also
during this academic year PC awarded over $35,000 in book vouchers
to help students defray some of their college expenses.
During the FY05-06 school year PC provided on-campus
“mini-grants” for campus partners to assist with our
mission to provide tutoring, mentoring, academic counseling, confidence
building, diversity training, leadership skills, distance learning
opportunities, career counseling and much more.
