Administration

The University of Illinois at Chicago is seeking an exceptional leader to join the university as the Dean of the College of Business Administration.

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is one of the nations preeminent urban public research universities, a Carnegie RU/VH research institution, and the largest university in Chicago. UIC serves nearly 28,000 students, comprising one of the most diverse student bodies in the nation. Through its 15 colleges, UIC offers a full spectrum of academic programs and actively pursues interdisciplinary research and scholarship with partners around the world. By emphasizing research and student success, UIC sets a high standard for the dynamic, vibrant, and engaged 21st-century urban university.

The UIC College of Business Administration is an AACSB-accredited, research-based business school, with a mission to create new knowledge, business, value and leaders for the global marketplace. The College includes departments of accounting, finance, information and decision sciences, and managerial studies and offers a high-quality business education taught by nearly 80 faculty. More than 2,200 undergraduate students major in accounting, entrepreneurship, finance, information and decision sciences, management or marketing. Nearly 600 masters students can pursue an MBA, MS in Accounting, MS in Management Information Systems (MIS), and MA in Real Estate. Doctoral programs are offered in Business Administration, with concentrations in business statistics, marketing, human resource management and MIS.

The College leverages its location in the heart of Chicago to provide real-world experience to students through project courses, internship programs, and engagement with the business community. The Colleges entrepreneurship program is ranked in the top 25 by the Princeton Review and includes two distinguished programsThe Technology Ventures course and Concept2Venture Business Plan Competition. Both programs assist students in turning technologies and ideas into successful businesses. In collaboration with UIC's School of Design and the College of Engineering, the College has created the UIC Innovation Center to focus on interdisciplinary product development. Yearlong Innovation Center course offerings bring students and faculty from business, engineering and design together with clients such as Whirlpool, Motorola, and Dell to develop new product concepts. The College is within walking distance of the Chicago financial community and has a strong partnership with the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, who helped establish The International Center for Futures and Derivatives. A CME-sponsored market training lab offers hands-on commodities trading and market microstructure classes. The College partners with the local business community through the Center for Human Resource Management. Our information decision sciences students have developed relationships across Chicago giving them the opportunity to work on real projects for many companies and organizations including Microsoft, Blue Cross Blue Shield, CNA, Targeted Tech Solutions and the City of Chicago.

The successful candidate will have: an earned doctorate and achievements sufficient to merit tenure at the rank of full professor; experience in academic administration; an understanding of and appreciation for the ideals, opportunities and history of a large, public, urban research university; and the ability to articulate a shared and compelling vision for the College, to establish clear objectives for the future, and to effectively deploy resources to achieve strategic ends. Candidates must have extraordinary external relations skills, including the ability to fundraise. The Dean will need a deep knowledge of current trends and emerging issues in higher education and business, high ethical standards, and a strong commitment to teaching and learning, faculty scholarship, and diversity. Superior candidates will thrive on the opportunities available in a large, urban area.
