Position Advertisement – Dean of the College of Nursing

The University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Nursing.  The appointment is expected to take effect in August, 2010.

UIC, a Research I University, has 15 colleges with approximately 16,000 undergraduate and 9,000 graduate and professional students.  It is the largest university in northern Illinois and has a significant focus on health science research in ethnically and economically diverse populations.  Ranked 3rd in NIH funding and 5th in scholarly productivity, the UIC College of Nursing offers top-ranked BSN, RN/BSN, GEP, MS, DNP and PhD programs, and has approximately 136 FTE faculty and 1,060 students in three departments at Chicago and four regional sites across Illinois.  The College is also home to a World Health Organization Collaborating Center, one of 45 nursing centers worldwide focused on primary health care in the international arena.

The College of Nursing and other UIC health science colleges are located within the west side Medical Center District, the world’s largest concentration of public and private health care facilities.  The College has close working relationships with the University of Illinois at the Medical Center and a broad array of clinical and community agencies across Illinois.

Candidates for the position must have achieved national and international stature in their field; have a demonstrated commitment to academic and clinical excellence and to diversity; be able to provide leadership in advancing the College’s research, education, and service missions; have the ability to work collegially and effectively with faculty and multidisciplinary constituencies within UIC; be committed to cutting edge informatics solutions for research, education, and practice; and be able to develop and enhance relationships with external constituencies, including the ability to create resources through partnering and fundraising.  The position requires administrative experience demonstrating the capability to lead a multi-site academic unit and qualifications for an appointment as a full professor.

For full consideration, nominations and applications should be received by September 4, 2009.  Electronic applications are welcome at nursingsearch@uic.edu.  Applications, including a curriculum vitae and the names and contact information for a minimum of three references, should be addressed to:
