Provost Announcement: Search for UIC Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs

I am pleased to announce that the Search Committee for the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs (VPFA) has begun work and is seeking applications, nominations and inquiries. This search is internal to UIC.
The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs provides leadership to the campus and support to the Provost on issues related to faculty. This position reports to the Provost and is a member of the Provost’s senior advisory group. The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs serves as the Provost’s liaison to the Campus Promotion and Tenure Committee and is responsible for coordinating the committee’s work. The portfolio of the VPFA also includes promotion and tenure policies; faculty orientation, mentoring, and career development programs; mentoring programs for academic administrators; programs to recruit and retain underrepresented faculty; programs to enhance teaching; and sabbaticals, emeritus appointments and faculty awards.
Candidates must hold the rank of full professor with tenure and should have administrative experience, preferably with broad exposure to instructional, research and support activities; experience in issues related to faculty academic appointments (tenure-track and other); a commitment to principles and practices of shared governance; and a commitment to fostering diversity among the faculty. The preferred candidate should also have familiarity with both east and west side units, their programs and cultures; strong interpersonal skills and experience in building collaborative teams; a wide network of colleagues within the campus and other universities; and a broad knowledge of issues in higher education.
