Job Description
The Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs provides leadership to the campus and support to the Provost on issues related to faculty.
The position reports to the Provost and is a member of the Provost’s senior advisory group.
Qualifications for this position:
Minimum:
- Full professor holding tenure
- Administrative experience, preferably with broad exposure to instructional, research, and support activities
- Experience in issues related to faculty academic appointments (tenure-track and other)
- Commitment to principles and practices of shared governance
- Commitment to fostering diversity among the faculty.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with both east and west side units, their programs and cultures
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience in building collaborative teams
- Wide network of colleagues within the campus and other universities
- Broad knowledge of issues in higher education
Duties will include overall supervision of the following processes and programs:
- Faculty Affairs Human Resources reports to the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
- Policies related to promotion and tenure
- Liaison with campus Promotion and Tenure Committee
- Mentoring programs for academic administrators
- Faculty orientation, mentoring, and career development programs
- Programs to recruit and retain underrepresented faculty
- Programs to enhance teaching
- Sabbatical Review, Distinguished Professor Program & Faculty Awards
- Emeritus Appointments
- Academic Grievances
Additionally, the Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs will provide analysis and research on academic issues for the Provost and may represent UIC on various university committees and central administration projects.
