What is CAS?

The Course Applicability System (CAS) is an electronic advising system intended primarily for potential transfer students. Using the World Wide Web, CAS provides consistent and up-to-date information about degree requirements to students, advisors, faculty, and administrators. CAS allows a user to view Course Equivalency Guides, Academic Programs, Course Descriptions, Transfer Course Evaluations, and Planning Guides. One of the most valuable tools for a potential UIC student is a Cross-Reference Planning Guide. A Cross-Reference Planning Guide shows specific courses offered at the institution the student is currently attending and how they may apply towards requirements of a specific degree program at UIC.

Why Use CAS?

  • Provides storage of information in one centralized, easy to access, location for students, advisors, and interested public.
  • Provides more efficient, more accessible, and virtually paper-free process to help transfer students move from school to school and earn degrees in a timely manner.
  • Allows access 24 hours a day through any computer with internet connectivity.
  • Disseminates information easily and effectively.
  • Increases visibility and accessibility for degree and course information.
  • Changes to degree programs are immediately available to all users.
  • Shows immediate transfer course evaluations.
  • Facilitates the transfer process by allowing students to compare degree requirements across institutions.
  • Frees advisors to focus on issues beyond course selection.
  • Provides a utility to search for specific degree programs offered at any CAS institution. The utility allows searching by state, category or partial degree program title.
