UIC Department of African American Studies Departmental Award

Deadline: March 31, 2008
Eligibility: Must be a UIC student who has completed or is
in the process of completing the requirements for the major
in African American Studies; and have a GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale
Description: The Departmental Award recognizes majors who
have achieved academic excellence in the field of African-American
Studies. The winner of this competition will receive $500.
To be considered, a student must complete the application
form (downloadable above), a 500-word essay describing your
research in the field, along with an explanation of how this
work has influenced your plans for the future; transcripts;
and two (2) letters of recommendation.

Award

have a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 scale; and have a demonstrated
commitment to issues of racial justice
Description: The UIC Department of African American Studies
Grace Holt Memorial Award recognizes students who have actively
worked to improve the lives of African Americans. The winner
of this competition will receive $500.
To be considered, a student must complete the application
form (downloadable above), a 500-word essay describing your
community work and explain how that work has changed your perspective
on issues of racial justice; transcripts; and two (2) letters
of recommendation.
