CHICAGO JEWELERS ASSOCIATION PRINCIPALS SCHOLARSHIP FOR UIC
STUDENTS

on the application. We will, however, send you an application,
as they are only available as a Word document.
Eligibility: Must be a Chicago (city) resident for at least
three years at the time of application; be attending the UIC
campus and have full-time standing (12 hours for undergraduates;
9 hours for graduate students); be in good standing at the
end of each term; and produce a progress report following each
semester for the Chicago Jewelers Association
Description: Three UIC students will be chosen to receive
a $4000 scholarship paid in eight installments over a four
year period (meaning $4000 per semester for the entire time
you are at UIC). Students must maintain a full time, continuous
status for fall and spring terms.
Selection is made on the basis of the following: GPA; Strength
of Essay; Strength of two submitted letters of recommendation;
community and work history; and a panel interview if selected
as a finalist.

DAAD GERMAN UNIVERSITY SUMMER STUDY GRANT

Eligibility: Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen; be a student
pursuing full-time study at a U.S. or Canadian college or university;
and have attained at least third-year/junior standing. Open
to all fields of study. In addition, applicants must have completed
a minimum of four semesters of college German (or have obtained
an equivalent level of language proficiency elsewhere) in order
to be able to participate in group projects and follow lectures
in German. Finally, applicants must be younger than 32 at the
start of the grant period.
Description: The DAAD German University Summer Study Grant
program provides scholarships to attend a broad range of three-
to four-week summer courses at German universities which focus
mainly on literary, cultural, political and economic aspects
of modern and contemporary Germany. Extensive extracurricular
programs complement and reinforce the core material.
A number the University Summer Course Grants are made possible
by the DAAD Alumni Association of the US, including one that
is specially earmarked for an applicant in the fine arts.
Applicants will be assessed on the basis of their academic
record and statements of projected academic and professional
future. Demonstrated interest in Germany and Europe and/or
the need to learn the German language for professional or academic
purposes will also be taken into consideration.
Students awarded the grants receive
funding for courses lasting a minimum of three weeks. The
scholarship is approximately €770,
which covers tuition, room and board in whole or in part. Accommodations
are arranged by the host institution. In addition, DAAD will
provide an international travel subsidy of €210.
Scholarship recipients are expected to devote their full attention
to the course and may not concurrently undertake individual
research. A written report is requested within four weeks of
the end of the course.

AMGEN SUMMER SCHOLARS SCIENCE PROGRAM

Eligibility: Must be a U.S. citizen
or permanent resident; be an undergraduate enrolled in a
four-year college or university
in the U.S., Puerto Rico or its territories; be a sophomore
who has completed at least three semesters, a junior, or a
non-graduating senior (will return to home institution next
fall); have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2/4.0 scale; and
be interested in pursuing a PhD or MD/PhD after completing
bachelor’s degree.
Description: The Amgen Summer Scholars Science Program is
designed to increase learning and networking opportunities
for undergraduate students committed to pursuing a science
or engineering career, and to spark the interest and broaden
the perspective of students considering a scientific career.
The Amgen Program is hosted by ten different universities
across the country, including Stanford, Howard, Massachusetts
Institute of Technology, and several campuses in the University
of California system. Students have the ability to select more
than one university to apply to. Each university focuses on
one or more specialty fields of research. Please see the website
for more details on program locations and areas of research
of each location.
Dependent upon where students apply and are accepted, financial
assistance varies; however, financial assistance is a primary
component of this program. Students do not have to fund this
experience individually.

UIC STUDENT LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

Important Notes: Web registration now open. It is free to
sign up for the conference; however, if you are a no-show the
day of, you will be charged $15 to your student account.
Eligibility: Open to all UIC students at all levels, including
graduate and professional school students
Description: The Student Leadership Conference (SLC) is an
annual conference organized by Student Leadership Development
and Volunteer Services. It is designed to enhance leadership
skills for students at all leadership levels, allow for networking
of student leaders, and encourage the incorporation of service
into leadership.
This year, SLC is being held on
Saturday, February 2, 2008, from 9:00am – 4:00pm in
Student Center West. CAMPUSPEAK will be providing the programming
in the form of three different
tracks. Students will be able to choose between learning about
leadership, diversity, or community involvement. Students will
also be able to choose which sessions to attend, allowing them
to tailor the day to meet their personal needs. Each session
is designed to stand on its own, allowing students to attend
one session on each of the topics.

SCHOLARSHIP ASSOCIATION FOR UIC AWARDS

Eligibility: Scholarship Association awards are designated
for currently enrolled UIC students. Students must have completed
at least 12 credit hours at UIC in order to be eligible for
most awards. Preference is given to continuing students unless
an award is specifically designated for a graduating senior.
Please note: some awards have additional eligibility requirements.

Description: The Office of Special Scholarship Programs is
pleased to announce the 2008 Scholarship Association Awards
for UIC Students.
The Scholarship Association for UIC was founded in 1963 by
a group of concerned faculty, staff and friends of UIC in order
to raise money to support scholarships for UIC students. Today,
this group of scholarships is a primary source of funding for
current UIC students.
Awards are offered each
spring, and are open to current UIC students who meet the
specified requirements for each award.
This spring, over 60 scholarships are available to currently
enrolled UIC students ranging in value from $500 to $5,000.
Awards cover a wide variety of majors and also include recognition
for academic achievement, campus and community involvement,
and financial need.
