Scholarships for Architecture and Art

Unless otherwise noted, the Office of Special Scholarship Programs at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) does not administer or sponsor the programs listed on its website. The content of these pages are merely a guide for current undergraduate and professional school students at UIC. American Council of Engineering Committees (ACEC) ProNet Scholarship - for undergraduate juniors, seniors or graduate students in architecture or engineering or a combination of both whose studies will be leading them into practice management

American Planning Association - variety of awards for undergraduate and graduate students in fields related to planning

The Fund for Women Artists - web site with a variety of funding sources for women in the arts and their projects

Institute for Humane Studies Film Production Internships - placements in media or film production in Los Angeles in fall, spring or summer

National Endowment for the Arts Grants - grants given to individuals, groups or companies in dance, art education, music, literature, theater, and design

National Geographic Young Explorers Grant - funds for projects in research, conservation or exploration

UIC Department of Theatre and Music - scholarships and financial aid for UIC students only majoring in theatre or music

Javits Fellowship - (NOT BEING OFFERED THIS YEAR) one-year, renewable stipend for students in a social sciences, humanities, or the arts graduate program leading to the terminal degree in the field

American Academy of Rome Prize Fellowships - for graduating seniors and graduate students in the arts and humanities, where being in Rome is an integral part of study

American Concrete Institute - architecture and planning studies leading to a career related in concrete materials and engineering

Harvey Fellows Program | Mustard Seed Foundation - Christians; various fields; graduate work

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency STAR Fellowships for Graduate Environmental Study - supports master's and doctoral students in environmental studies; students can pursue degrees in traditionally recognized environmental disciplines as well as other fields such as social anthropology, urban and regional planning, and decision sciences; up to $37,000 per year in support

December:

American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers - scholarships for students in degree programs related to architecture, HVAC-R engineering and technology

Frank Huntington Beebe Fund for Musicians - fellowships for gifted young musicians, generally performers and composers in classical disciplines, who wish to pursue advanced music study and performance abroad, usually in Europe

Kate Neal Kinley Memorial Fellowship - for students studying art, music, architecture in graduate programs

Puffin Foundation Grants - for emerging artists in the fields of art, film, music, theater, photography, and public interest whose works due to their genre and/or social philosophy might have difficulty being aired

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Greater Research Opportunities (GRO) Undergraduate Fellowships - for undergraduate sophomores pursuing environmental studies (can be from a variety of different fields); receive support for junior and senior years, as well as a summer internship with EPA between junior and senior year; up to $17,000 per year and $7,500 in internship support

Wallace Stegner Fellowship | Stanford Creative Writing Program - offers 10, two-year fellowships -- five in fiction, five in poetry; writers are considered artists intent on honing their craft; tuition, health insurance, and $26,000 living stipend per year

January:

American Architectural Foundation Scholarships for Minority and Disadvantaged Students - for high school seniors, college freshmen and technical/community college transfer students who would have otherwise not been able to enter into a professional architecture program for finanical reasons

Cintas Fellowship in Visual Arts and Music Composition - visual photography, arts, literature; artists with Cuban citizenship or of direct descent (Cuban parent or grandparent)

Harriet Woolley-Fondation des Etats-Unis in Paris - for students who have completed an undergraduate degree or have even begun graduate study in painting, graphic design, printmaking, sculpture, and instrumental or vocal music; nine-month residency in Paris to continue study

Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Arts Award - (UIC STUDENTS APPLY THROUGH OSSP ONLY) for graduating seniors or students who have graduated within the last five years who have not yet attended graduate or professional school; planning to pursue a graduate or professional degree program in the arts; for students with high levels of unmet financial need only

February:

BMI Foundation Student Composer Awards - for students studying music who also compose classical music

Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship - for undergraduate and graduate students with a demonstrated commitment (through coursework and/or experience) to children's education and a future career in children's media

Jewish Federation Academic Scholarship Program - for Jewish students in college or graduate school for the performing arts, architecture; additional fields

March:

Glenn Miller Birthplace Society Scholarships - for graduating high school seniors and first-year college students, who intend to make vocal and/or instrumental music a part of their future lives

April:

SOM Foundation Prize in Architecture, Design and Urban Design - for graduating undergraduate and graduate students of accredited U.S. schools of architecture, design and urban design

Worldstudio Foundation - undergraduate or graduate students in a design or art discipline, intending to pursue that discipline as their careers

May:

Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting - for aspiring screenwriters to spend one year completing their original work of fiction

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Spouses Heineken USA Performing Arts Scholarship - for students pursuing an undergraduate degree full-time in good academic standing at an accredited college or university; planning to pursue a degree in a field that will lead to a career in the performing arts (drama, music, dance, opera, marching bands and other musical ensembles); have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale; exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities; awards of up to $3,000 to (10) students

Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Spouses Visual Arts Scholarship - for students pursuing an undergraduate degree full-time in good academic standing at an accredited college or university; planning to pursue a degree in a field that will lead to a career in the visual arts (architecture, ceramics, drawing, fashion, graphic design, illustration, interior design, painting, photography, sketching, video production and other decorative arts); have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale; exhibit leadership ability and participate in community service activities; awards of up to $3,000 to (10) students

The Entertainment Software Association Foundation Scholarship - scholarships for full-time undergraduate study at accredited four-year colleges and universities in the USA; up to (30) scholarships of $3,000 each will be awarded annually, 15 to graduating high school seniors and 15 to current college students; must be women or minority students, pursuing degrees leading to careers in computer and video game arts (high school seniors must already be accepted into a program), maintaining a GPA of 2.75 or above on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent), and be US citizens

Society of American Military Engineers-Lake Michigan Post Scholarship - for full-time students pursuing an undergraduate degree in engineering, architecture, or environmental or applied science with the ultimate goal of pursuing a career in construction, engineering, architecture, environmental science, or a physical science associated with these career fields

The Christophers Video Contest for College Students - for undergraduate and graduate students; film or video creations
(5 minutes or less in length) to best communicate the message and mission of The Christophers and its belief that
one person can make a difference; cash prizes of up to $2,000
