Notes:
Eligibility:
Applicants must be full-time sophomores, juniors or seniors with
a demonstrated interest in science or engineering. Candidates
must be a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S. to apply.
Description:
The goal of the CBE REU summer program is to excite undergraduate
students about research, thereby encouraging their pursuit of
a graduate education. The REU Program at the Center for Biofilm
Engineering gives participants a unique opportunity to work on
collaborative research in a cross-disciplinary setting. The 10-week
summer program provides on campus housing and a $4,000 stipend.
Each student
works under the direction of one or more mentors: an assigned
faculty member, research engineer, research associate, laboratory
technician and/or graduate student. Students conduct biofilm research
under the close supervision of their mentors. The research is
focused in one or more of the following disciplines: Microbiology,
Environmental Engineering, Statistics, and Chemical Engineering.
Some of the projects are new, while others are a continuation
of existing research. Experimental results from the summer’s
work are incorporated into ongoing research in the Center’s
Research Areas.
