James "Rhio" O'Connor Memorial Scholarship Fund - undergraduate and graduate students at colleges and universities in the U.S. are invited to honor Rhio's spirit of self determination and intellectual curiosity by writing an essay about the use of alternative medical approaches in the treatment of cancer; cash prizes for winning essays

International Bridge Conference James D. Cooper Student Paper Competition - for college and university engineering students, essay written based on one of many topics given regarding a technical topic in the field of engineering

Princess Grace Foundation USA - awards theatre, playwriting, dance, choreography and film fellowships and scholarships for students who are U.S. citizens or have obtained permanent residency status.

The Independent Institute-Sir John Templeton Fellowships Essay Contest - for college students and junior faculty on topics encouraging the study of the meaning and significance of economic and personal liberty

Jane Austen Society of North America Essay Contest - to foster the study and appreciation of Jane Austen among high school, undergraduate and graduate students

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Rachel Carson Sense of Wonder Contest - poetry, essay, photo and dance submissions all accepted, that express an individual's idea about capturing the beauty and sense of wonder about nature

The Lincoln Forum-Platt Family Scholarship Prize - essay contest for undergraduate students on topics aimed to preserve the memory of Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War

Freedom from Religion Foundation Youth College Essay Contest - scholarships for students writing about experiences as a free thinker
