Goldwater Student Information Guide

The Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship is awarded annually to outstanding sophomores and juniors interested in pursuing a career in science, math or engineering research. Each scholarship covers eligible expenses for tuition, fees, books and room and board, up to a maximum of $7,500 annually. Juniors may qualify for up to two years of funding.

In order to be eligible to apply, candidates must be full time sophomores or juniors, interested in a career in science, math or engineering, be a US citizen, natural, or resident alien, and have a GPA of 3.7 or above. The ideal candidate will also have quality research experience, be currently enrolled in an eligible major, and have relationships with science/engineering related faculty who can write recommendations.

Students should be aware that each university may nominate only 4 students per year. If necessary, an internal competition will be held among interested UIC students.
