Important Notes:
There are multiple components to the successful completion of
this fellowship. Winners of the Pickering Fellowship
are expected to “pay back” their time to the Foreign
Service for a minimum of three years. Please see

Eligibility: Must
be a U.S. citizen, seeking to enroll in graduate school in the
academic year following the year of application, and have as
well as maintain a GPA of 3.2/4.0 scale throughout the entire
duration of the program.
Description: The
Pickering Graduate Fellowship in Foreign Affairs is designed
to recruit and create a dynamic and highly-capable Foreign Service
Officer workforce. This fellowship is aimed at graduating seniors
or students ready to apply to a U.S. institution for a two-year
graduate degree program in academic programs relevant to international
affairs, political and economic analysis, administration, management,
and science policy. Fellowships are valid at U.S. graduate institutions
only. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented
in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are
encouraged to apply.
Graduate fellowships include tuition,
room, board, and mandatory fees paid up to $50,000 for the first year and
second year of graduate study, with reimbursement for books
and one round-trip travel. Graduate-level fellows also receive
stipends during participation in one domestic summer internship
between the first and second year of graduate school.
