Rhodes
Student Information Guide
The Rhodes scholarship provides
funding for students to study abroad at Oxford University
for a period of 2-3 years. Each year, 32 scholarships are
awarded throughout the United States to students with scholarship, leadership, service,
and demonstrated potential to lead and serve others.
In order to be eligible,
candidates should have at least a 3.7 GPA, be active in
campus
activities, research, and community service. Candidates must
have their first BA by the beginning of their study at
Oxford,
and be 18-24 years of age on October 1 of the
year in which you apply.
UIC will interview
campus nominees for the Rhodes Scholarship in September
of each
year. In order to be considered as a nominee for
this award you must contact OSSP directly for more information
by the first week of the fall semester in which you are applying.

If you want to apply for the Rhodes Scholarship:

Download and read the UIC Applicant Instructions (link is above) for the Rhodes for 2009

Call or visit OSSP in order to begin meeting with Beth Powers to discuss your candidacy

Begin to compile a list of AT LEAST EIGHT (8) professors or professionals who can write on your behalf

Begin drafting written materials so that you give yourself ample time for reflection and correction
Important Dates for Rhodes Applicants:
UIC Deadline: September 11, 2009
Final Rhodes Deadline: October 5, 2009
