Notes: Students may participate in a maximum of two SULI internships.
Eligibility:
Applicants must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student
and must have completed at least one college semester. Students
who will complete their undergraduate degree prior to starting
their internship may apply as graduating seniors. Candidates must
be a United States Citizen or a Permanent Resident Alien.
Description:
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has established a national
program entitled the Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internship
(SULI). Under it, Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and other
labs offer student appointments for spring, summer, and fall terms.
Participants will be associated with members of the scientific
and professional staff in an educational program developed to
give research experience in areas of chemistry, physics, engineering,
biology, nuclear medicine, applied mathematics, high and low energy
particle accelerators, and science writing. Students work with
scientists or engineers on projects related to the laboratories'
research programs. The summer programs at the various laboratories
will run from late May to mid-August, fall programs run from August
through December and spring programs from January through May.
Students are required to participate for the full term of the
program.
