Mo-Yin S. Tam
Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs
Mo-Yin S. Tam is a Professor of Economics in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She was appointed the Interim Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs in July 2007. Prior to that, she served as an Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs from 2000-2007 and as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the College of Business Administration from 1995-1999.
During her tenure as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, she was a major contributor to preparing the campus for its 2007 North Central Association Reaccrediation. From 1998-1999, she was a faculty fellow of the UI Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. She also served as the Interim Head of the Department of Information and Decision Sciences in 1998. During her tenure as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at CBA, she successfully led the College to gain AACSB Reaccreditation in 1997. In 1996, as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs of the College of Business Administration, she co-founded with UIC colleagues the UIC Asian MBA programs. These programs now have more than 1,000 graduates holding leadership positions in the government, business and financial units both in the United States and China.
Dr. Tam holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree (First Class) in Economics from the University of Hong Kong and a Ph.D. in Economics from the State of University of New York at Stony Brook. She has published numerous research articles and reports in top journals in United States and has presented her research extensively in U.S., Europe, and China.
From 2000-2002, Dr. Tam was the PI of an NSF research project on “the digital divide,” the issue of disparate access to information technology. Her recent and current research interests include econometric studies of the impact of diversity on student achievements, underrepresentation of women in the sciences, and the gender salary gap.
