- Instructional Design Support
The TLC collaborates with faculty and academic units interested in using both
traditional media and computer technology to improve all phases of teaching
and learning.
- Teaching Assessment Services
The TLC assists faculty with course assessment including:
· video taping of a class
session for self-assessment,
· arranging for formative peer review,
· assessment of learning processes and outcomes, and
· collection of student feedback and course evaluations
The TLC also implements
the Undergraduate Student Government's course evaluation program called Students
for the Improvement
of Teaching (SIT).
- College Teaching Preparation
Program
The TLC offers workshops and seminars throughout the academic
year designed to help TAs enhance their teaching skills and develop a documented
record of teaching quality. Participants completing the College Teaching
Preparation Program will be recognized with certification of their accomplishment.
- Spoken English Language Profiency
The TLC administers the SPEAK spoken English language proficiency examination
for teaching assistants. The TLC offers support for teaching assistants for
whom English is not their native language. This includes formal classes and
assistance in preparing for the SPEAK test.
- Custom Consulting
TLC works with faculty and departments to provide custom solutions to individual
challenges. The TLC can set up visits to observe award-winning teachers,
customize training to meet the needs of a group of faculty, or assist in identifying
sources and procuring funding for instructional initiatives.
- Referrals to Campus Services
The TLC
assists faculty in accessing available campus services that support teaching. If
you have a question about teaching or need assistance and you don't know
whom
to call, the TLC will connect you with the unit or service that can help.
