DDDH Announcement Regarding Interim
Associate Chancellor
October 31st, 2008
Dear Colleagues:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Patricia A. Gill to the
Provost's Office in the role of Associate Vice Provost for Planning
and Programs, effective November 17, 2008 pending approval by the
Board of Trustees. Her role in the Provost's office will create a
central coordinating policy function at UIC through the development
and promotion of a standard protocol and template for the
formation, promulgation and maintenance of campus policy. Pat will
continue to serve in my office as Associate Chancellor and advisor
regarding faculty grievances and procedures. Both Provost Tanner
and I are delighted that Pat has agreed to take on these new and
challenging responsibilities. Under Pat's leadership, the Office
for Access and Equity became a vital and integral part of the
campus' mindset in its continued commitment and progress in matters
of faculty, student and staff diversity. During her tenure, she is
perhaps best known for her advancement of employee development
programs, origination of dispute resolution services, and her work
toward increasing MAFBE contracting participation in the
development of the South Campus.
In the interim, I am pleased to appoint Caryn Bills to the role of
Interim Associate Chancellor for Access and Equity. She will
continue to serve in her role as Deputy Associate
Chancellor. Caryn has been with the Office for Access and Equity
for over eight years and has been the driving force behind the
development and implementation of a highly effective mediation and
dispute resolution service for the campus.
Please join me in welcoming both Pat and Caryn to their new roles at UIC.
A search for a permanent Associate Chancellor will commence shortly.
Sincerely,
Eric A. Gislason
Interim Chancellor
